This is true for crankshaft journals, connecting rods, camshaft lobes, piston rings, bearings, etc. When rebuilding a worn out engine you'll need to replace them all in order to regain the engine's original performance. This replacement hydraulic lifter fits 72-83 CJ5, 72-75 CJ6, 76-86 CJ7, 81-86 CJ8 Scrambler, 74-83 Cherokee / Wagoneer SJ, 84-01 Cherokee XJ, 86-92 Comanche MJ, 72-73 Commando, 71 J-Series Pickup, 87-95 Wrangler YJ and 97-02 Wrangler TJ models equipped with 2.5, 3.8, 4.0 and 4.2 liter engines. Sold individually- use 8 for 4 cylinder, 12 for 6 cylinder and 16 for 8 cylinder applications. Replaces OE 3189883
